If I had to choose, I would have to say Humpbacks are my favorite whale. You might have guessed that seeing two sets featuring the Humpback. (Incidentally, more on the drawing board). This is probably due to Whalesong, a fictional biography of a humpback whale by Robert Siegel (to whom this set is dedicated). This coming-of-age story from such a unique point of view, greatly encouraged me throughout my late teens.
The "Humpbacks" "George and Gracie" also stared in Start Trek IV: the Journey Home. They won the part, of course, because of the vocality of thier species. All the whales communicate vocally in some way, but none match the complexity, range, and haunting beauty of the Humpback's songs.
